We will be rolling out a new look for Nurse-Recruiter.com in the near future. We think it will result in a site that is less "cluttered". What can you expect? Well first of all, we will continue to have one of the easiest navigation systems you will find. We have won many awards because of the ease with which our visitors can move throughout the site. That's not going to change. You will see a whole new color scheme, and a more directory approach to our site. That's right, what makes Nurse-Recruiter.com different from all those other job sites, we're a directory driven site and they are a search based site. We think most of you find this a better approach to looking for jobs that are of interest to you. We'll offer you a sneak peek in next months issue. Yes, it will take that long, Nurse-Recruiter.com has nearly 800 files so it's a big project.
This may not be what you're thinking. Nurse-Recruiter.com is committed to giving back to our profession. While we are a small, family owned company, we know the importance of the role we play. We therefore decided when we first started this site that we would contribute a portion of our annual profits to a scholarship fund. We also thought it would be fun to let our visitors participate in the decision making process. Here's how the program will work. Throughout the month of October, we will take nominations from our sites visitors. You must nominate a currently existing nursing scholarship fund. We do not have one of our own and we cannot give to individuals. During the months of November and December, we will take votes at our site for each of the nominated scholarships. The scholarship with the most votes on December 31, 2000 will receive our contribution for this year. So be sure to get your nomination in and you can vote once per day, so be sure to support your nomination too! Our subscribers get to have a jump start, click here and you can get your nomination listed higher on the list. Between now and October 1st, we'll take nominations from our subscribers only at this special URL: http://nurse-recruiter.com/nursescholarships.html. Nominated scholarships will be listed on a first come first listed basis.
Some of you may be wondering why we have a section for webmasters. Well the answer is very simple, we want to help other nurses to have an Internet presence. When we first started Nurse-Recruiter.com, we found very limited help and again, we felt we had a responsibility to share with others the things we've learned and some of the great resources that are available on the 'net. If you have or have been thinking about starting a web site, you're sure to find some help in our webmasters section. You'll find everything from hosting your site to adding interactive tools like forums, search engines and more. Best of all, most of this stuff is free and if it's not, we think it's a great deal for the price. So check it out for yourself, you won't be sorry that you did. Visit our webmasters section by clicking here.
Some of you may be new to posting a resume to an Internet data base so let me go over a few things for you.
We're also going to give recruiters from current and past advertisers free access to the database. So get your resume on-line free today, then watch the offers come. This is a really exciting addition for us and one that we've spent a great deal of time and effort to bring you; hope you like it! If you have problems or suggestions, please let us hear from you.

SPIRIT
BUILDERS The world of work for those of us in the nursing and health professions has daily challenges, stressors and problems. Often times we allow these to default to apathy, sadness, anger, pettiness, jealousy and related unhappiness. Let me make a recommendation to you! Don't get mad or sad or whatever -- rather pull up your spirit builders!!! ... What? You don't have any spirit to build? Hang on a minute, and let me show you how, on a daily basis, whether traumatized at home, work or in the community ... you can take The Path To Spirit Building 101. What is Spirit Building? "Spirit Building" is a concept I crafted for my own survival some years ago and have detailed in my newest book on enriching your life. There are key traits, behaviors and focuses applicable to Spirit Builders for nursing and health care professionals. So when you feel you have run out of gas for life and work grab hold of one or more of these Spirit Builder traits and behaviors. To read the rest of Jo's article, click here.

As a recruiter, I've always been amazed at the mistakes people will make during the interviewing process. So this I wanted to share a few of these problems to help you avoid them. Here are numbers one and ten, you'll have to visit my article at Themestreams to see the rest. 1) DON'T BAD MOUTH YOUR PAST EMPLOYER(S) It also says negative things about you. As much as possible, keep the entire interview process a positive experience for both you and the recruiter. 10) BE PREPARED FOR NORMAL RECRUITER QUESTIONS. By this I mean, as recruiters, there are a few standard questions that we ask to find out about things like: honesty; team work; personality; and commitment. Any good recruiter is going to know these traits before you leave. Click here to see the rest of this months story and look for next month's issue, I'll go over some of the questions that you can routinely expect to be asked. We'll include what kind of question it is, and what type of information the recruiter is really trying to find out. Good luck to you and please feel free to write me anytime.

TIDAL MODEL I want to introduce you to a new exciting theoritical approach, The Tidal Model by Dr. Phil Barker. Are you interested in understanding people with mental health problems? Are you committed to breaking new ground in developing the kind of human care that people really need? Are you ready to help the people in your care grow and develop as persons? Developed by Phil Barker, the Tidal Model is a radically new approach to mental health practice. Phil Barker assumes that people with all kinds of mental health problems can benefit from the unique human support present in genuine human caring. The Tidal Model assumes that: empowerment means focusing on the person's experience of health and illness collaboration involves 'caring with' rather than simply caring 'for' or 'about' people the concept of alliances suggests the royal road to empowering and collaborative care in mental Visit this exciting web space at http://www.tidalmodel.co.uk
PLATO
IDEA WORLD and NURSING SCIENCE We suspect and observe the deceptive appearance. Plato collected them into the tangible world, presupposing that this deceptive appearance is a shadow and a duplicate of the conceivable and only real world. As picture and image, our world is similar to the world of ideas anyhow ... then where is the objectivity? We project our existence on a movie screen.... Let's chase, let's go deeper, and let us not call the patient the "client". When the construction is simply supported by observations that do not describe the totality, then it is unstable. Holisms, Universality, Totality are the slogans of acceptance of 21st century. We unreel and it is certain that our ideas evolve with us along with the primitive understanding. The way that Nursing and nursing signifies itself through one holistic consideration is reflected in the opinion that its parts precede the Entirety (HOLON) and that the Segment, the parts, are interpreted by the Entirety and in reference to the Entirety. In this manner, Health is a collective structure that contains the four fundamental considerations:
1. The
consideration of the Philosophy This is a piece from, "Holistic Conceptual development model of Nursing Science" (Kalofissudis' Theory) You can find the first part on-line in http://www.nursing.gr/theory

I have been an LPN for more than thirty years. If you had told me thirty years ago, or even as late as four years ago, that I would have to go through the garbage I am going through now, I would not be a nurse today. Both the lack of pay/benefits and the working conditions, at least here in Minnesota, are deplorable. When it comes to benefits, the health care industry is the last to take care of their own. I have no retirement, medical, or sick leave. I am 58 years old, and do not go to the doctor because I have no medical benefits- one of these days, I may have a very serious, potentially life-threatening disease, but will get no treatment because I put off going to the doctor for fear of incurring expenses which I cannot afford. Several years ago, I had a tumor in my eye, but I couldn't stay in the hospital because of the cost. I was fortunate enough to have three of my nurse friends take care of me, and I honestly believe that I had better care at home then I would have had had I stayed in the hospital. My sister that works for Denny's has excellent benefits, medical, retirement, good sick leave, and a 401k. She has no education, yet makes more than I do. What is this saying about the nursing profession, and, indeed, the health care profession as a whole? In addition to the lack of tangible rewards, the working conditions are horrendous. At one point, I was working in a nursing home, and a heroin addict on my shift shot up in the bathroom. Of course, once I found out, I wrote up and incident report and noted it in her charts. Two weeks later, she was found dead in the bathroom from an overdose. Because I had written the incident report, I was questioned by police, the health department, and several attorneys. In this same facility, a nurse stole 150 tablets of Tylenol #3, and forged my name at least three times to do so. To top it off, as far as I know, she is still working. I am really fed up about the state board as well. They have too much power, and can take your license away because you don't pay taxes. Even if you get into a fight with your husband and police are called in, your license will be gone in a flash. Is that fair? I don't think so. I no longer enjoy being a nurse. I am from the old school where people respect the medical staff and nurses. It is a new breed out there today, in which nobody respects anybody. I want out of this career, but don't know what else I could possibly do after having spent more than thirty years devoted to this profession. Who wants to put up with this? If I could find something different to do, I would switch careers in an instant.
Friends: Here is Families USA's statement on Governor Bush's plan for prescription drug coverage for Medicare consumers (also released today). It will also be posted on our Website (http://www.familiesusa.org). Lack of broad coverage and defined benefit, limited financial commitment cited Ron Pollack, executive director of Families USA, the non-partisan, non-profit national organization for health care consumers, today issued the following statement in response to the announcement of Gov. George Bush's proposed Medicare/prescription drug plan: "It is disappointing to learn that Gov. Bush proposes to spend more money on people who have already died - through repeal of the estate tax for the wealthiest 2 percent of the American population - than he spends to strengthen Medicare and to provide needed prescription drug coverage to seniors," Pollack said. "Unlike a prescription drug benefit in Medicare, which would provide guaranteed, comprehensive coverage and cost containment, Gov. Bush's plan would leave seniors paying very high out-of-pocket costs without offering guaranteed, comprehensive coverage. At the same time, Gov. Bush's plan offers inadequate protection for people with high medical costs and does not address the problem of rapidly-rising prescription drug costs." Families USA's analysis of the Bush plan looks at Structure, Fiscal Commitment and Benefits. Read the rest of the story by visiting our site.
