Question
of the Month: First, each individual position that you apply for should have a unique cover letter. Look at the ads that your are responding to. What are they looking for? You want to make sure you include that in your cover letter and why you think you experience can offer that. For example, if an ad is looking for a nursing manager with a BSN (MSN preferred) and five years clinical experience in pediatrics with progressive management responsibilities. You might want to include something like the following in your cover letter: ...I completed my baccalaureate training at XYZ University. ...I have X number of years experience in Pediatrics and Pediatric Intensive Care. In addition to being a unit preceptor, I serve regularly as the charge nurse on the unit. My committee memberships at the facility include, Performance Improvement and Safety. I have assisted the Unit Manager in the annual preparations of the units budget... Hope that gives you an idea. While your resume is standardized (except for the objective), you cover letter is not. This should speak specifically to the job to which you are applying, be fairly brief and be sure to include all of your contact information.
