The Medical Error Prevention Act of 2000 (HR 3672), introduced by Congresswoman Connie Morelli (R-MD), would protect information obtained in voluntarily reporting errors. Without HR 3672 a major barrier will continue to exist in the reporting of medical related errors. With this legislation comes the protection that information obtained through voluntary reporting would not be available in civil and administrative proceedings. In an effort to help reduce medication errors, the American Hospital Association (AHA) and the California Hospital Association (CHA) have developed two tools to help educate staff. "Beyond Blame" is a 9 minute video depicting errors as seen through the eyes of providers involved.
