The Joys of Travel Nursing
Nurses who enjoy traveling and want variety in their work experience have an amazing option available to them known as Travel Nursing. A travel nurse can contract through a specialty nurse-staffing agency, and work short-term or long-term assignments in different locations around the country. Sort of a work and vacation experience all-in-one, hand-picked by you!
Nurses who travel are often nicknamed “travelers.” Having worked as a traveler for many years, I know why travel nursing is so wonderful -- you get to choose where you want to go, instead of being told where to go. What a treat! The places I’ve traveled read like a travel guide of the United States: Seattle, San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston, Arizona, California and Fort Lauderdale. You can do things you always wanted to do. For instance, while in Arizona, I hiked the Grand Canyon. In NYC, I attended fabulous musicals on Broadway. When winter came, I went to Florida to scuba dive and tan on the beach.
My love for my profession and my passion for travel inspired me to found Nightingale Nurses, a staffing agency that specializes in placing Travel Nurses. As a nurse, I know that there are a lot of factors to consider when taking a new position.
Being a travel nurse offers many more benefits than just travel. Many travel nurses accept a job where nursing staff is urgently needed. Helping rescue health care clinics and hospitals around the country from the nursing shortage is emotionally fulfilling and a terrific morale boost. Travel nurses are appreciated, experience the joys of teamwork, and receive great pay rewards. Now that is what I call a win-win situation!
Another enormous benefit to being a travel nurse is that housing is usually both private and free. Nurses are provided with their own well-furnished apartments, so you don’t need to worry about moving your belongings. Travel expenses are taken care of as well. On top of all this, travel nurses get paid above average scale. This above average salary in combination with free housing allows travel nurses to earn and SAVE a good amount of money. That’s in addition to other exciting benefits such as a 401K plan and dental and health insurance.
If you love nursing and have a passion for travel, then travel nursing was hand-tailored for you. Trust me, nothing beats traveling to those exciting locations you’ve been dreaming about and getting paid well for it.
